The Best Beauty Rituals: Let’s Face It!
It’s always cliché to start off a post about skincare…
It has been such an exhilarating week for me as I celebrate my life once again during the JC Birthday Week. Let’s exist to inspire before we expire so always live life exactly the way you want to, so that we may never have to look back one day and say to ourselves, “I should’ve done this, I should’ve done that.” Do it! And do everything with zero regrets because regrets are an appalling waste of energy. Always embrace yourself and your past. We are who we are from the choices we made yesterday.
I believe that there is a princess in every woman, even if it’s just for a day. I definitely want something different and special. All the been there, done that a million times over is just looking too tiredn already.
There is something which not many know about me unless they spend a lot of time with me is that I am actually a very private person and I don’t like to be in crowds, which can be strange because I am considered a public figure. But I enjoy my quiet time with my close friends and family instead of entertaining the people I am
not familiar with. I tend to be at ease with the same people and you can say I don’t have many friends but the truth is, I CHOOSE not to have many friends. Firstly, I don’t have the luxury of time for idleness and secondly, my time is much better spent doing more constructive things and nurturing the people who love and understand me.
I want only a small cosy number of people to be present with me on my special day. Family, my first and most important priority in life and a few close friends would suffice and make me very happy. We decided on a magic number of 18 which would be comfortably set up in a long table for an elegant sit-down dinner at my residence.
I must have tried or had parties at one too many restaurants in Singapore so for this year, I am taking The Luminous One Birthday Bash back home.
My love for Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake goes way back to my piano playing days. My penchant for romantic love stories will never cease.
Prior to my decision of this year’s theme, I had set my eyes on the finale dress at the Patinya show during the Bangkok Elle Fashion Week and had ordered this fabulous creation for my birthday! Hand made with over 6000 flowers using 5 tailors over 200 hours, this dress would definitely transform me into The Swan Queen!!!
And voila, we have the theme for The Luminous One Birthday Bash this year! I’ve already had many ideas flowing and running through my head about how I want this party to be! Let’s transform Maison JC into The Swan Lake set!
Balloons are a must at every party and it doesn’t have to be childish these days with all these modern balloon art. My discerning choice for balloon art got to be The Little Red Balloon. I have worked with Kristina for my last birthday party at Les Amis and I like it that she listens to my needs, caters to my taste and has true artistic talent that will bring the whole setting to live with her balloon art.
This party calls for swans in different sizes floating in my swimming pool that would take the theme Swan Lake to another level. I wanted a winter theme and Kristina painstakingly created a winter tree with Christmas lights hanging over my cabana. Silver and white balloons dominated the main dining area with little ballerina girls holding balloons welcome my guests at the doorstep. To create another fun photo spot, we had the entire theatre decorated with huge round translucent balloons in various sizes to give a bubble effect which is quite interesting for photos.
It was by chance that I was being introduced to Jolin Koh from Divine Palate. Being able toconjure up a 7-course gourmet meal for the gastronomer in me is no easy feat. I requested for Italian with a touch of Japanese, a marriage of my two favourite cuisines complete with tables, chairs and decorations that are in sync with the theme Swan Lake.
I wanted an elegant and romantic settings with only white flowers, my favourite being roses. Ivory roses always exude a refine, graceful and dignified feel. They suggest the elegance and royalty of The Swan Queen. Customised mirrors on the table setting achieve the reflective effect of the scene by the lake. It is on one night that the prince, out hunting, sees the beautiful Odette dancing in the moonlight by the lake and immediately falls in love with her. Crystal glass with blue water detail with floating candle- In Swan Lake Act 2, white-blue lighting suggests a cold early morning in the park, with the moon providing the only light.
Being the perfectionist that she is, Jolin spared no details that would add the finer touches to the party. Working with her has displayed how responsible and dedicated she is. I knew immediately that we would work well together on this.
Prior to the day of the party, she and her team did a site check to ensure that everything will move like clockwork on the day itself. There would be 6 kitchen staff, 2 waiting staff and a sommelier to properly serve my fine champagnes and wines to the guests.
I was simply amazed at Chef Felix Chong’s creations. From the amuse bouche to the appetisers and main course, each dish was delicious and creative. There was not one dish that didn’t make my guests and me go wow!!! Whipping up a great meal calls for the freshest of ingredients and cooking with LOVE… And Chef Felix did all that!!! Amazed and bravo to Chef Felix!!!
Incorporating my favourite “I Love Candy” scene from Marie Antoinette, my cakes and sweets took centerstage after dinner. I had the luxury of having 5 out-of-this-world master birthday cake creations by Abitesg, Mad About Sucre and Oni Cup Cakes. Totally indulging in my penchant for whimsical creations. I felt like a little girl in a candy store!!! There are no words sweet enough for a moment like this. I was truly smitten.
Entertainment comes in the form of a photo booth that comes with disguises for quirky instant prints by One Eye Click Live. I can only say that this additional activity has made many of my guests go gaga and taking repeated prints with friends and family! It was a super fun time at the photo booth! Love it!!!
Sipping my Ruinart Rosé while enjoying my very own fabulous home party made me feel beyond blessed. To have my family, friends and loved ones around me on this special day, enjoying some of the best of what life can offer, laughing and having fun together… Life is fantabulously
good at The Luminous One Birthday Bash 2015! xoxo
