CHILL FACTOR

January 28, 2016

Hi everyone, this is my first trip in 2016 and the destination takes me to somewhere close to Singapore. Hong Kong has always been a nice urban escape for me, just 3 and a half hours away, offering me the best cuisines and shopping. Having not been there for quite a few months, I was missing the local food, my friends and the sweet escape to the Pearl Orient.

Before the trip we were checking up on the weather and were really baffled at how cold it would be during the week we are there. Kinda strange as it has almost never been so cold in Hong Kong ever! It has been a place where I rarely need to bring out the fleece and furs. Being sceptical about the weather forecast and I perhaps ended up not packing the most appropriate attires for my trip! Also forgetting the fact that HK never had indoor heating in buildings as well. Boy, was I in for the coldest winter ever! I could swear I felt it raining ice or frost at some point! In moments like this, I could feel Mark Twain, though a different city but the bitterness of the cold wind pierce us the same way, wherever we may be.

“The coldest winter is summer in San Francisco.’- Mark Twain

I was braving 3 degrees of chills on the coldest day in 59 years of Hong Kong history. Although pretty snugly dressed in cashmeres and wools, the chills were bitter to the bone both outdoors and indoors! My hotel room that offered no heating facilities was cold as ice and I had to practically turn the air-conditioning up to 32 degrees to be comfortable.

Meeting up with friends over teas and meals, shopping, dining kind of made up for the inconsistent weather and rather nice indoors activities became the order of the days. The minimal times when I was outdoors were really migraine inducing especially when the wind was strong. Moments like those make me  desire a hot chocolate and just be snuggling in bed with a thick blanket.

It was quite delightful that my friend managed to get us a reservation at 8 1/2 Otto Bombana, most definitely on the top of my list whenever I am in Hong Kong. It has been a while and I really miss the food in this 3 Star Michelin establishment. Always a highlight for me when I get great Italian food! The other place we decided to go for this trip was Amber, a French 2 Star Michelin at the Mandarin Oriental. I haven’t been there in 2 years and it was almost refreshing to be back!

In the afternoons after some shopping, I like to chill out and have some hot tea. I have been missing my Crunch Cake at Sevva a little too much to give it a miss, despite the recent change in my diet, avoiding too much sugars and trying to eat as clean as possible. Once I am back to Singapore and back to reality, I promise to work all these decadent food off my system!!! Dim sum, wanton noodles, bean curd, desserts oh la la. Temptations everywhere I turn my head. If I ever live in this city, I will put on 20 pounds! LOL.

This new year I have promised myself to lose 3 kilos and I have lost 1.5 from being consistently working out    with HIIT exercises. From someone who had not done an ounce of exercise for at least 10 years, I must say I am back on track now and feeling really good about myself. Sweating it out, from becoming a taboo to me,  has now become a daily workout ritual. Years of accumulated toxins oozing out of my pores, is so good for my total well-being. Cutting excess sugars from my daily life has made me a new person. I no longer crave coca-cola, sugars in my coffees and teas. If I do want a sparkling drink, I opt for sparkling water instead. Changing my diet will improve my health and keep me gorgeous for many years to come. I believe…I am what I eat.

“A moment on my lips, a lifetime on my hips.”

xoxo
